I was just sitting here thinking about the remote is not working, could it be the buttons getting stuck, or the batteries running low. Is the IR Sensor not picking up the signal? Then I got to thinking about the days growing up as a kid, when the remote controls only had 2 or 3 buttons, and even then that would have been to change the channels, not handle the sound, or turn it on or off. Then I thought back even further of our TV’s that had the 2 turning dials, one for the main VHF channels, and then the one for the UHF ones. And heaven forgive you if you missed the channel on the UHF one, you had to turn it all the way around to that one again, as they didn’t go backwards. The ultimate horror? when the dial casing (made of plastic) broke and would not stay on, Pliers to the rescue! I was the best remote at one point in my life, I was ahead of my time in advancements, articulating joints, I could talk back and disagree with the choice, and I could set it to what I wanted unless someone else was willing to get up and change the channel.
Its just amazing how we rely on them any more. So how many remotes do you have, do you have a master remote for everything, or separate ones for different devices? Would love to know your thoughts. As always, thanks for stopping by, hope to see you back again, and have a fantastic day! Tom.

I don’t think we could live without a remote. Times sure were different way back then.

Times were way different, and I too have grown use to having one, but think of all the extra calories we would burn! have a great day! thanks for stopping by!

We have a remote for everything and while I consider myself pretty savvy on the computer, I am intimidated by my husband’s tv setup. He makes me fun of me since I would rather get up and turn everything on than have to deal with all the remotes!

There is nothing wrong with that Susan! Cute. Thanks for the great comments, you should see the set up at my father in laws house we have done for them. Oh my goodness, it is a logistical nightmare! Have a great day, and smile!

What a fun post! Times have changed. I have to say I love my remotes, but I still have 1 too many. Universal remote is awesome. Brady Bunch reruns on UHF–THE BEST! My grandparents had one of those awesome wooden TVs–it’s still in our family and it still works!

Thanks for the great response Lauren, I don’t have a universal remote yet, maybe after all this I might get one, but it was simpler days with just VHF and UHF, now we have cable and satellite, way too many choices!

We have a remote for every device, I don’t think I could deal with programming a master remote! I totally remember the old dial TVs AND the pliers trick, I’m really showing my age now :).

Stop it, you are quite pretty! Thanks for your comments and share! Hope to see you back soon, and have a fantastic day!

Hmm…back home we used to have a black and white TV with no remote! You wanted to change channels or change volume, we’d have to get up (this was back in the 80s). Now, wow, technology is super advanced!! Currently we have one remote that came with the TV (which we never use), the Comcast Cable remote (the only one we use), and the surround sound remote (which we can’t use anymore since we don’t have speakers)…oh and the PS3 controller which we use when watching movies…yikes!

Too funny, we were actually just talking about how TV’s were when we were kids with the two dials. I have two remotes, and that’s only because I can’t get one to do it all!

Thanks for your comments JulieAnn, I do appreciate it! Thanks for stopping by, and have a great day!

We have a remote for every device we own- tv, dvd player, receiver, tivo, ect, but we only use the universal remote. It’s sad how we have come to depend on remotes. We lost our universal one the other day and spent a good 30 minutes looking for it. We could NOT leave until it was found lol. It kind of made me wish we were back in the day when you just walk over and push the buttons on the tv!

I know. It is crazy the dependency we have now and days. Thanks for sharing, have a fantastic day! Hope to see you back again!
