I was sitting here thinking. What is too much?
I wanted to write this because I thought maybe everyone has different opinions about the subject, and I wanted to hear yours. So how many phone calls for political reasons is too many? Let’s defer to the wise owl with the tootsie roll pop, a 1, a 2, a 3, crunch! 3!
So how many licks (or phone calls) does it take to get to the center of your tootsie roll pop (or nerves)? We screen our calls, and with good reason. Lots of people call to ask us to refinance our home, or wanting us to switch cable providers, but when its election time, our answering machine fills quick, very quick. I think in one day I had a record 11 different political phone calls, anywhere from do you know so and so did this (negative) to so and so did this (positive), to come out to the rally, to if you don’t vote this way this will happen. I am not putting down our political system, what I am concerned about is why some many calls? Often times I will hear the same message of a call twice in the same day, is that necessary?
What makes me really think about all of this is the money spent doing this, from the automated systems, to the studios that record these. The money being spent. Collecting campaign funds is one thing, but taking over the phones with all these messages, and the money I can think of what it cost to do all this, and how it could be used in so many different ways to benefit all of us. Pay down part of the national debt, invest some of it into social security so there is money for the future, grants to small business owners to stimulate the economy. The list goes on. Hold on one sec, another call coming through. Back, that is the 4th call today. I know everyone wants you to vote for them, I know that information should be distributed, but I think there should be a cap, like 10 calls over 45 days, use them sparingly that’s all you get! Just like campaign funds, a certain amount only, if you can’t earn my vote with that amount, or good debates, or exceptional leadership if you are running again, then that’s all the money you get, anything over that amount goes to charity.
So what are your thoughts? Do you think there are too many, or not enough? would love to know what you think. As always thanks for stopping by A Medic’s World and thanks for taking time to be here, I do appreciate it! Have a great day!

i don’t mind a few of them as long as they do not try to influence me but just ask my opinion

I agree, phone calls are not the way to a voters heart. I went to a rally to volunteer and they just handed me a list of people to call at 8pm at night! I said no way pissing people off would not get more votes…

I am in Canada, so we only get a fraction of all the stuff you guys get. BUT i must say, like you said too, it’s part of the game. I do think that it gets a bit overrated and maybe to a point like, most of us have our minds set, so we don’t need all the hooplas they throw our way, but I guess they do it for the ones who are still on the fence.

Too much, too much…from phone calls, to TV, radio, and Internet ads…the media is surely eating this up because they are making tons of money… The thing is, though, most people have their minds made up and donot listen after that, and anothet segmrnt does not pay attention at all. The only way to fix this mess is to cap what they can spend…maybe they can all be heroes by donating the extra money to hungry children.
