I think it is essential to be ready for an emergency when ever we have the opportunity to do so. Having the right items during this time is not only important but critical when the event arises.
I was given an opportunity to review this product from the great people over at Waka-Waka.com they allowed me to review their black colored Solar Powered Lamp and Mobile Phone Charger. I have always been a supporter of using the power of the sun to energize the things we use if possible. No excess batteries in landfills, or precious minerals to produce power, using the sun seems to be the way we need to go, in order to preserve what we have, and leave something to those who follow us.
Design:
The Waka-Waka Solar Lamp and Charger is designed with purpose in mind. It allows the user to shine the light from a multitude of different angles, to use a small para-cord (not included) to hang it like a camp light, or to use the cleverly designed hole to place it on a filled water or beverage bottle. They really were thinking outside the box when they designed this with so many different people in mind.
Durability:
The solar panel is designed to take a normal wear and tear kind of beating. Obviously being in the sun, its designed to soak up that and in about 8 hours be fully charged, while the panel itself is able to take on small dirt, or rain, keeping the power button dry is essential for not shorting it out. The unit feels rugged and durable, meant to last through a myriad of instances.
Features:
Use it for camping, emergency kits at home or the car, boat, or SUV. Would make a great gift idea for those gadget junkies, or those you are concerned about to have something like this if they need it!

Price:
The Waka-Waka Solar Lamp and Charger retails for $79, but keep in mind you are using the power of the sun to charge it, no need for costly batteries, you can buy an optional USB AC Charger unit to decrease the charge time by up to 3 hours, but its not necessary if you plan to use it and charge it while the sun or light is out. Right now on their site Waka-Waka.com you can buy 2 of these power/lamp units and get one free. Or if you prefer to go the Amazon route you can get your Solar Lamp/Charger here for only $64.99 plus free shipping.
Overall impression – For the Security it gives you, being able to use it in an emergency, or camping, or for everyday things like reading or studying, I think it it is well worth the price. In addition to all of that, the companies mission to help bring light to everyone around the world is commendable. The only downside I saw was that there were no cables included with the device, or a cord of any sort to suspend it as it recommends. With the power of the sun, the AC cord should be secondary in your mind, but it could come in handy on those really dark, cloudy days. This would also make a great gift idea for that person who likes gadgets, and eco-friendly devices.
