One of the best things I get to do is review some of the great products that I talk about here on A Medic’s World. The Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner is the newest edition to the products I got the chance to review. All I can say is that if you like convenience, if you like mobility, you are going to love this scanner.
If you order the basic system, it is ready to use right out of the box. The unit comes with a 4gb storage card, batteries ready to go, and the scanner. It also comes with a usb flash drive adapter for the storage card in case your computer doesn’t have a card reader.
So lets break it down a little to a few categories: Functionality, Compatibility, Uses, and Price.
Functionality:
As I shared above it is ready to go out of the box! Being that it works on batteries, and has no need to be hooked up to a computer to use, you are ready to scan as soon as you pull the battery tab, turn it on, set the date if you want, and press the green button to scan. As you can see in the demo video below that I did, it is extremely easy to use, perfect for kids and adults alike, and makes it easy to store those memories, or use it for other ideas that I will share below.
Everything you need is in the box.
- • Scanner 10.25″ x 6.5″ x 1.25″
- • Four AA batteries (installed)
- • SD memory card (installed)
- • Stitching and color restoration software
(on the SD card) - • USB to SD adaptor
- • Quick Start User Guide
- • One-Year limited warranty
Compatibility:
It is it’s own machine. It can work by itself, independent of needing a computer to do the scanning. Since everything gets stored to a SD Memory Card, you can use that card with PC’s, or Macs. I personally love that you don’t need to have it hooked to a computer to run, you can have it anywhere with you, if a craft room, take it to a family members house, go to the library with it, to the park and enjoy a warm summer day. The places you can take it are endless.
Uses:
The number of uses you can find to have this scanner are many. From being able to catalog all your family pictures, to scanning large documents and stitching them together, or using it for projects like mine for scanning my Sketch Card/Art Card collection just to name a few. Also, don’t forget about scanning objects for eBay, I also collect sports collectible cards, and will be able to scan hundreds of cards at a time without needing to be at my computer to do them.
As you can see from the two pictures below, the first one is the scanned image from the scanner, and the second one is it cropped after I edited it.
So using it for hobbies is just one way you will get some spectacular uses out of it. I just love the simplicity of it, and how portable it is.
Price:
The basic Flip-Pal starts at $149.99 and with that you get 3 protective screen sheets, the 4GB SD Memory Card w/ software right on the card to get you going, a USB Flash Drive adapter for the SD card in case you don’t have a Card Reader in your computer, and installed batteries (just have to pull the battery tab to get them going). You can’t go wrong with the basic system which you can grab and Scan images anywhere, anytime with the Flip-Pal Mobile Scanner! by clicking here!. There are other packages available which I will share some below.
Scan your photos and seamlessly upload them to the web with the WiFi-enabled Flip-Pal Scanner! Buy yours today!! This package includes the scanner, a 8GB Wi-Fi enabled SD Card which means you can just wireless upload to your computer or device right from the memory card, cool huh? Also you get a choice of carrying case as well, this would be the complete package idea for that gift to someone, or just yourself. This package starts at $234.97 and is a great price considering all the things you can do with it!
They also sell some of the accessories that you can grab here separately, like rechargeable battery kits, software, carrying cases, protective sheets, and more.
Pros:
Portable, easy to use right out of the box, great for photo enthusiasts, hobby collectors like me, and no need for a computer to begin capturing memories, and scanning all those important things you want to keep.
Cons:
While a standard set of batteries will last you for many a scan, and using rechargeable batteries will save money over the long run, there is no power cord adapter option if you want to plug it in, while this is not a big item in my sense of the review, to some I should point out that this is not an option.
Overall Impression:
A must have buy for anyone wanting something portable, lightweight, and able to process a lot of scans quickly and efficiently. Perfect for people who want to scrapbook photos, make online photo albums, share pictures with family and friends, to hobbyists for scanning their collections, people who sell on eBay, easy to scan something right away and list it. To me, I can’t say enough good things about this one, I was excited to get to do the review, and found that this thing was perfect for my site, and my hobby. Definitely something you should check out, and you can grab yours here if you want one.
