Eclipse – New Dawn for the Galaxy iOS for iPads Game Review
Official iOS version of the ‘Eclipse: New Dawn for the Galaxy’ boardgame
I do love strategy games, I enjoy having a challenge, and one that can grow as you do. With Eclipse: New Dawn for the Galaxy for iPads from Big Daddy Creations, you get the 4 basic components of a game like this: Explore, Expand, Exploit, and Exterminate. I never played the board game of this prior to the review, but if it is as much fun as the iOS app version, then I may just have to get it!
So let me break down my experiences I had of the 4 main elements of the game:
- Explore: Although this is a turn based game, this is essential to establish your reach against other players. You want to find zones that not only benefit you with placement, but offer you the best way to do the next element.
- Expand: If you stay in the same place, you will lose very quickly, you have to find a mixture of growth, and exploration to find a balance that doesn’t overextend your fleet, or cause you to lose resources for being too thinned out.
- Exploit: Finding new resources, taking over the Ancient’s ships, and technologies, these all will help you advance, and be able to survive against other people in this game!
- Exterminate: Exactly what it means, you have to take out the other people in the game to move farther. That means having a good balance of expansion from your home world, and the technology boosts to keep yourself in the battles. If you can boost your shields, or your weapons, you will go down quickly in this game!
Now like any good game, there is a learning curve, and this type of game requires you to learn a bit about what you are doing to succeed in the game. The Tutorial is fantastic, and it not only answered a lot of my basic questions, but showed me the type of balance you need to survive.

Definitely, a must buy for anyone who loves the space exploration, “risk” based iOS games. If you have friends around you, you can play local games, as well as online ones, which is something I really enjoy as well.
