A little over a month ago I was contacted by an organization called SproutUp, and he emailed me asking me if I wanted to be part of something exciting and review new and intriguing products. After looking around, and seeing the Bloomsky Weather Station, I was more than eager to join forces, and here I am today bringing you news of this wonderful gadget.
Now let’s start off by saying: [bctt tweet=”I am a Weather #geek and #fanatic here at Tom’s Take On Things, and I have joined the #weatherlution”]
I am going to break down some of the components on why this makes this one of the coolest, if not last Weather Station you will ever need to buy.
Camera
The Bloomsky has an ultra-wide angle camera with a fish eye lens to capture the unique view that it does so well. It captures an image every 3-5 minutes or when there is a sudden change in the weather like temperature, humidity or precipitation. From what I have seen so far, it is amazing the images this gadget captures. I am stunned daily now on how effective it is, and it adds an element of exploration to weather geeks like me everywhere. At the end of the day, you will be able to see a time lapse video of the sky for that day, or previous days as well to compare different weather patterns.
Sensors
The Bloomsky has got you covered! With sensors for temperature, humidity, barometric pressure, UV exposure, and precipitation (detection only) you will have a bounty of knowledge of what is going on outside your door. With sensors to know the difference between moisture and precipitation, and another sensor to adjust the exposure of the camera based on daylight brightness, you will always be assured your device is recording accurate information, and able to capture images with crisp and clear precision.
Power Options
You can use the Bloomsky by charging it with the included charging cable that connects to the base of the unit. With a low battery alert that will notify you of when you need to charge it, never fear that you won’t be ready for that next bout of weather. They also offer a solar panel option to connect directly to the Bloomsky, and I am so hoping to get this one day, so I don’t have to worry so much about keeping it charged as often.
Connectivity
You need a standard 2.4GHz WiFi connection in your home in order to connect the Bloomsky. There are apps to view and control it available for both iOS and Android. There is no native app for the PC but there is a community of like minded weather geeks that you can join by visiting the community here.
What’s in the Box?
You get the Bloomsky Weather Station, AC Charging Cable, Stake Apparatus to position the Bloomsky in the soil or on a patio. It also comes with basic mounting hardware for roof or railing placement. They do sell a kit that has the solar panel charger with it, or you can buy it separately if you only own the unit by itself. I so hope to get the solar kit, would make it so much easier for charging down the road.
App Features
You can view pictures of current weather, catch time lapse videos of weather from the day before, view statistics and readings that your Bloomsky is getting all from the comfort of your device using iOS or Android. What’s better yet? You can share all of this with everyone! So far I have shared or saved pictures or videos to my Google Drive, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, Google+, and so much more. It makes it easy to share things you see, or your passion about weather like I have with all who will take a look! You can also search for other Bloomsky users in your area, a different state, or even a different continent. It makes it easy to see weather from around the world.
Check out some of the time lapse videos I took below, these are amazing, and really fun to watch!

So let’s talk about different reasons on why one might own one of these. My important reason, is that it is cool! So freaking cool! If you are fanatic like me, or even if you are not a fanatic like me, you will enjoy having this at your home. What about the kids? Want to get them more involved about learning about the weather, this is the perfect gadget for that. Maybe you own a business, that is dependent on the weather, and you want your patrons and customers to know what is going on, just sharing the data, pictures and videos on your site will keep them informed.
Ready to say “take my money now!” and “where do I get one?”, I have you covered if you want the kit that has the Solar Panel included you can grab that here. If you want the basic kit, like the one I reviewed above, you can grab that one here.
Overall impression, If you can’t tell, I am head over heels in love with this gadget. So thankful for the chance to review it, and now be part of the Weatherlution. Are you going to join me? Where would you put yours when you buy it?
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received one or more of the products or services mentioned above for free in the hope that I would mention it on my blog. How would this handle snow? Would it be totally useless/buried if there was a foot of snow on the ground?
Tom Shewbridge says
It would. There are different mounting brackets. One came with it to mount to a deck or outdoor staircase. They also sell a kit, where you can mount it to your roof too. I am hoping to find a new spot with enough elevation where I don’t have this problem. But great question! Thanks for stopping by! ~Tom

This product sounds and looks SO cool. I wish I would have had the bloomsky when I lived in Columbus, Ohio. I LOVED the weather and storms in Ohio. I was Mr. Junior amateur meteorologist storm tracking dude. (That’s an official title by the way.)
Now that I’m back in Seattle all I would be recording is big blops of rain and an occasional big bright hot round thing in the sky that nobody here quite understands.
Thanks for the great review of a really cool product Tom. Could you send some severe weather my way Please?
Tom Shewbridge says
