When you decide to start a blog or blogs, a lot of “stuff” is roaming around in that head of yours. What do I write about? Who do I want to reach? Am I going to have a certain niche? In my head, it was worse than that. I was thinking do I have what it takes to do this blog thing after being a Paramedic for 24 years, and a Veteran of the U.S. Army? I also kept hearing the terms “Mommy Blogger”, “Daddy Blogger”, “Food Blogger”, “Deals and Coupon Blogger”, and the list went on.
So I had a site that I created in the late 80’s called A Medic’s World, I owned the domain already, and it started out simple, and well to be honest, stayed simple. A few years ago I decided to turn it into a blog. Whoa. Me a blogger? Yep folks, I was throwing my hat in, to an internet filled with blogs. I knew from the start, that I didn’t want to have a “niche” or at least one that would restrain me from sharing what I wanted, so I just tried to be myself.
I did pretty well, I have worked with over 80 companies and PR firms, and have earned three ambassadorship opportunities, and have done some amazing articles and reviews. Earlier this year, I really started to realize that my blog name A Medic’s World might be holding me back from certain opportunities. You see, I would love to do Travel and PR work with companies like Disney, Marvel, Warner Bros. Studios, Carnival Cruises, Celebrity Cruises, and so much more!
That is how Tom’s Take On Things was inspired. It was time for a change, and I knew that. I bought the domain, switched everything over, converted all my social media accounts to the new name, so now what? I wait, partially for things to settle in with everyone, but mostly I work my butt off to make this a blog that people want to bookmark, or visit, or take time to leave a comment, or even share a post. I am even hoping one day to see a post of mine on the The Huffington Post or something similar like that.
I want to give credit where credit is due. There are times I couldn’t have done this alone. Mind you, I learned a lot of this on my own, a great deal of it actually. It was tough and still is tough being a male blogger in a world where industry and businesses are not using us to our full potential. With that said, the list below is not an all inclusive one. I know there are others who have inspired me and helped me along the way. If you don’t see yourself here, don’t take it personally, but these folks have given me reason to keep going.

You will reach your dreams as long as you keep doing what you do, and that is being yourself! You definitely have what it takes. Just keep moving in the direction you are going.
Just remember—– wise words I have heard from a successful blogger—: Don’t compare your beginning to someone else’s middle.

Tom, you are one of the sweetest people I know. I consider you one of my closest online friend and know I always have your back. We seem to always be the outsiders in the world of parent bloggers.
