9/11, I am sure you will see allot of posts today talking about it. You will see stories on the news covering events that occurred. You might see it talked about on talk shows. You might read about it in the paper or on the web, but no matter where you see it, the message is the same, never forget! I want to promote a new message, always remember!
I was working with Cleveland EMS at the time in Cleveland, Ohio. We heard various reports over our dispatch radio of units heading the the Airport for standby, staging up near the Federal Building, and I remember seeing the first images of the New York towers on the TV in the EMS room at the hospital we were at. All I know is it became hard to concentrate on that report, let alone the rest of the day. We all were thankful to be together, concerned for those who had family and friends in New York, and saddened for those in the towers and the planes, and all the fellow safety forces in harms way, that lost their lives on that tragic day.
So what I challenge all of you reading is “always remember”. And I am going to twist that a little and say always remember to stay strong, to remember that we persevere, and that we as a nation are unbreakable. That day changed how we fly, how we cross borders, but it does not change who we are, and that is “as one”. As always, thank you for reading, I appreciate you being here, would love to hear your thoughts, stories, and feelings.

Some change is for the better. The memory of this day will probably never leave me. I remember where I was, what I was doing, who I was with, who I called and more. While this was a terrible moment in our nations history, it is also one that brought those who would never even make eye contact together in a solemn embrace.
Thank you for sharing your memories and we will always remember.
Tom Shewbridge says
Thank you Teri, for sharing your thoughts and experiences, and I do agree some change is for the better. I just wish the embrace would be for everyday not just in times of peril. Have a great day, and thank you again!

I remember. I was doing before-school childcare when a kid came in and said that someone “shot down the pentagon”…clearly he was a little off, but I remember going home and being glued to the TV and actually seeing the second plane hit the towers. I remember reading the stories of the people on the plane that went down and how a man called his wife right before it crashed. I can’t even write this without tearing up. I will always remember.
Tom Shewbridge says
Thank you for sharing Sarah, it was a part of us that will have a tear we just need to patch with the common good that we all have. Thanks for stopping by, have a great day!

Great post in memory of the innocence we lost that day but also the courage and the unity we gained as a country. 11 years later, I feel like we may have lost some of that unity, it is sad that it takes this type of tragedy to bring us closer
Tom Shewbridge says
Thank you for sharing your thoughts Amy, I appreciate your comments, and thank you for stopping by, it is sad that it takes a tragedy to bring us together, we need to find a way to do it now, to have a future worth living. Have a great day!

Wonderfully written…I hope everybody remembers and we stay united. A lot was lost on that day, but a new perspective was gained and many lives have been lost since that day in the War on Terror.

I still remember watching the second plane hit when I was a freshman in college, calling my mom frantically to find out where my cousin was. She had an office in the second tower and was out of the office that day. My brother lost some coworkers since two buyers for TJ Max/Marshalls was on one of the planes. I can tell you living in the NYC area, its a very sad day for everyone here.
Tom Shewbridge says
Thanks for sharing Susan, I know it must have been hard, and I am sorry for your brother’s losses. My heart again went out to my fellow safety forces. Thanks for stopping by, hope to see you back soon, have a fantastic day. Tom.
