Smiling! Such a simple procedure, one that takes less muscles that frowning to do. How often do you smile?, and is it one of a friendly nature, or of a cynical kind?
Smiling has been one of those things where it can mean the most, or be something to cause fear in the right situations. We have all heard the term “Service with a Smile!” but how often do we really get that kind of service, while it is taught when we get hired somewhere, how far does it really carry over into your daily routine? The problem with “Service with a Smile” comes from the person doing it, do they love their job? Do they even enjoy it a little? if not, more than likely you will not see those smiling faces we have all grown to love. The question raised then is, would you want someone to smile anyways that has no reason to really want to? I am mixed on that, because yes, a smile can make someones day, it can convert a bad day into a good one, but if the smile is not sincere, is it worth having? I still think yes. Anything that can turn a negative into a positive is worth having!
In our everyday lives, a smile can mean varying different things. If you are staring at the cute girl across the coffee shop, and smile at her, she automatically gets the impression that you think fondly of her, or that you are a creep. But hopefully the fond part first! Sometimes we smile when we are afraid or embarrassed, and don’t know what else to do. And the most common smile I think is the obligatory one, the one that means yes, I hear you but don’t agree, but I am going to smile anyway, or the isn’t my baby the cutest, and you think not really but smile anyways, I know these are not the types we want to see, but we do, and while a smile is a smile, it really isn’t sometimes. You can often detect emotion behind a smile, or the intent, it is how we perceive a smile that makes us able to judge character better.
So I challenge you, smile at someone, see their reaction. Learn from it, but we should always smile anyways, reason being, the more we do it, the more it catches on. There is nothing more irritating to someone who is yelling at you, than to give them a sincere smile back. I also always say to smile “it keeps them guessing”. So who did you smile at last? Do you smile often? When you smile is it mostly sincere? or do you have to play the game to get by? Would love to know your thoughts and comments, and as always, thank you for being here, and stopping by, have a great day! Remember to Smile! Tom.

I make a concerted effort to smile at people every day. It really is a tool to make yourself happier, as well as the person on the receiving end. It’s also a great way to teach your kids manners and kindness.

You are right about smiles meaning different things and why should we have to interpret a smile? If everyone would genuinely smile there would be less questionable smiles. Dont forget your smile can be seen in your speech over the phone and even in the way we text

that is true Jenn, I did not cover that, but a smile can be heard through the phone or through text, or even through writing! It is the enthusiasm, that makes the smile more rewarding! I too wish everyone would just have a genuine smile, but unfortunately in a dog eat dog world, that is far from us right now. But I hope attainable one day! Thanks for your comments, love having you here, remember to smile, and have a great day!
