Best Buy, Canary and Netgear Keeps Our Home Safe and Connected

I have always wanted to make our home safer for me and my wife.  I am sure I should have done something prior to this, but when given the opportunity to review and use the Canary from Best Buy, I thought what a blessing this was to help fortify our home.

The Canary Indoor Wireless High-Definition All-In-One Home Security device helps keep your home safe and sound with motion detection notifications, a 90+ dB siren and HomeHealth Technology. It learns the rhythm of your home so it can send you accurate notifications with fewer false alarms triggered by pets or other regular activity in your house.

It was extremely easy to set up.  All you have to do is find a central location that you feel will give you the most coverage, plug it in, and connect it to your WiFi.  The app was easy to download to my LG 4 Android Phone, and there is a version for iOS as well.  I created the account, and in minutes I was connected, and able to view live images right from the camera in moments.

We placed the canary on the counter in our kitchen facing the long hallway from the front door.  We felt this vantage point was the best one to use to get the most out of the view range that the Canary has.

The Canary allows you to see everything clearly as it can record in 1080p HD.  In addition to that, it has a 147 degree field of view, and infrared night vision that allows you to see in the dark up to 20 feet away. If you set the “arm” feature, you will get notifications anytime there is motion within the area the Canary can cover.  There are a couple of advantages to this feature to allow you to get alerts when the kids might get home, or maybe you have a house sitter and you can see that they are there.  The “arm” feature will also go off if someone you don’t know is in there as well.  This is when the app has two great features:

1. The 90+ db Alarm Button
2. Notify Police/Fire/EMS Button

Let me tell you, when I tested the 90+db Alarm it was loud, and I could hear it from throughout the house.  It would certainly startle me if I heard it.  That along with being able to contact authorities right on that same app screen is a convenience worth having.

It also conveniently has sensors to measure the temperature and moisture levels in the vicinity as well.  The Canary really has a lot of features in a compact design benefiting your home.

My wife and I both love it, and it gives an extra bit of peace of mind that we have an additional tool to keep our house safe, whether we are away having dinner locally, or on a vacation somewhere far away.

But like an infomercial “That’s not all, folks!”.  I am also fortunate to bring you information about the Netgear Nighthawk DST Router.  Best Buy and Netgear worked together to create a router that is easy to use and that allows you to easily connect your home with everything you need and even devices like the Canary I just mentioned above.

I know my wife and I have a lot of devices we connect via WiFi like both our phones, both our iPad’s, and our Laptops if we are using them when not in the office.  Some homes even might have more than that, and you are going to need a router that can keep up with all of them, and still give you speed of your network, and not have dropped calls, or “Dead Zones”.

The router also comes with a DST or Dead Spot Terminator.  Do you have a spot in the house that might not get connections, or the signal is really weak?  Well with this included gadget, it will extend the range of your WiFi Router and allow you to connect those devices that you weren’t able to connect before.  I am always trying to keep my Words with Friends matches updated but can hardly get a connection in the Bedroom when I am trying to play.  With this wonderful addition, I am able to get a stronger signal that keeps my device connected.
