On Monday, May 30th, we are supposed to celebrate Memorial Day as a Holiday. Some people say Happy Memorial Day, and while I understand the purpose of that to help promote the day. It may not be “happy” for some.

That is partly the purpose of this article. For some who may have lost someone while serving for our country, it may not be a “happy” time. For those people I have the utmost respect because it was someone they loved who has given their all to protect our freedom and all of us here at home.
I am a veteran, I served my country. I have lost friends while serving. I am a veteran of Desert Storm/Shield. While we may have not lost as many of those that has been lost in Afghanistan and other places, having the feeling of loss is something that never goes away.
I want to remind people of what the differences are in the days we recognize.
Veteran’s Day
To remember those who have served our country that are currently alive, or who died after their service to their country was done.
Armed Forces Day
To remember those currently serving. Whether they are from the Coast Guard, Navy, Army, Marines, or Air Force.
Memorial Day
To remember those who have died in the service of their country. Those who made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may have the freedom that we do, or those who may have saved other comrades in the line of duty, or saved civilians while protecting them in a time of war.
While you are with friends and family, having hot dogs, or maybe some burgers, please try and remember why you have this day off if you do have it off. It is for those who have sacrificed everything to protect you and this country. So enjoy your day, and thank those who have given you a chance to have it.
