Everyone is super busy this time of year. School is in full swing, work is getting more hectic, and the holiday season is just around the corner. When is the last time you sat down to enjoy the company of your family? One evening, just a few days before Halloween, settle in with your family and enjoy some holiday-themed entertainment. Maybe your family is into “scare the bejeezus out of you” movies, or maybe a night of Ol’ Chuck Brown and friends is more your style. It makes no difference what you choose to view; what matters is a fun-filled night with your family, bonding and making memories. Start traditions and enjoy each other’s company.
Set the Mood.
Make sure that your viewing area is set up with plenty of space for everyone to be comfortable. Dim the lights and decorate with festive Halloween items. For the younger crowd, think happy pumpkins and friendly ghosts.
If you have older children who enjoy a scarier decor, you can darken the room and light it with scary glowing eyes made from glow sticks and toilet paper tubes.
Pick the Movies.
It’s easy to find Halloween movies that the entire family can enjoy. Start with a classic Halloween choice. It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown is a perfect start to the evening.
For older children, Monster House might make an excellent choice.
If you have teenaged children, you can watch a really scary movie with them. Better yet, save the scary one for after the kids are in bed. I’ve heard that Cabin in the Woods is both scary and sultry…
Many of these are available on television, and be sure to check out your local library.
The important thing is to choose something that will entertain everyone without creating a restless night of scary dreams. Find a couple of movies that speak to your family and make them a regular part of the festivities.
Snacks.
Movies aren’t the same without snacks.
Choose a snack like Halloween Snack Mix or go the more traditional route of popcorn for movie night. Either way, you can dress the snacks up by serving them in a fun container like these.
We all want to spend more quality time with our families. We know that traditions established early in life will always hold special memories. Start with a basic idea and try to add a few special and unique touches. Before you know it, your kids might start asking to hang out with you. Well, baby steps. A Halloween Movie Night is just a start.

My daughter did not like scary movies at all growing up. They would give her nightmares. This changed (a little) as she graduated high school. We could watch scary movies…in the daytime! Followed by a Disney movie! lol
