I was a Paramedic for 24 years. While I miss it, one of the things I remember thinking about from two different vantage points was people who traveled and was visiting the City of Cleveland (while I worked at Cleveland EMS), and when I traveled either by myself, or with my wife Michelle, would we be covered if we didn’t have travel insurance if something was to happen.
There were occasions along my career, when we responded to emergency 911 calls for people who were traveling abroad from other countries there in the city. For them, it was a scary encounter. Not only were they hurt, but they were worried about how they were going to get care, and at what level it would be. I am not sure if any of them had travel insurance, but in retrospect I would like to think that they would have it.
I travel with my wife of 14 years now. It is rare that I travel by myself unless I am going to a blogging conference, or an event like that. In fact we have a trip coming up soon to Canada, and to be honest, til now, I never gave Travel Insurance a second thought.
Here is a boat returning to dock while ours was heading out to the center of the falls on a previous trip we had a few years ago. Not that you want to imagine it happening, but what if I was to fall in the water, and hit the boat on the way down? What would happen? How would I get medical and emergency care? Do you want to have to worry about all of that while you are on vacation like this to Canada?
So what is next for you? Check out MEDEX international travel insurance plans from UnitedHealthcare Global like I did. I filled out information for my wife and myself to get a quote, and it was surprising reasonable. You’ll have a choice of coverage and deductible levels, sports riders, lost baggage coverage, and more. (travel insurance plans are not available for purchase for residents of Washington State or New York).
I am in utter surprise of all the benefits you receive from MEDEX Travel Insurance when you sign up for your coverage, check out some of those benefits below.
I challenge you to check out the affordable options here that you can purchase to make your next trip or adventure a little more safer. Why not have some peace of mind, and be able to enjoy yourself. Nobody wants anything bad to happen, but do you want to be worrying about how you will take care of it all if it does?
NOTE: TRAVEL INSURANCE PLANS ARE NOT AVAILABLE FOR PURCHASE FOR RESIDENTS OF WASHINGTON STATE OR NEW YORK.
Have you ever bought travel insurance? Have you ever had to use it? Would love to hear your thoughts below. ~Tom

We’ve never bought travel insurance but are about to take a long (for us–almost three weeks) trip this summer. Does the cost depend on geography (US vs. international) or length of trip?

Hi Gina,
I think it does. There is an estimator on the website. ~Tom
