Applewood Smoked Bacon is the Apocolypse of the World. It might not be Zombies but it is close. I used to like it, I really did. I love bacon, really do. The takeover started a few years ago. The thought of Applewood Smoked Bacon was not crazed like it is now. It is everywhere, I mean literally everywhere.
Don’t get me wrong, I am not mad at anyone that likes it, but I am tired of seeing it everywhere and on everything. If you love it so much, please share with me in the comments below, why?
When I have a juicy grill cooked burger, the last thing that I want is a sweeter bacon on top of it. I want something like hickory smoked, or peppered bacon to step it up a notch.
Same thing with steak. I don’t want it wrapped with a sweeter tasting piece of bacon that takes away the grilled flavor of the steak. Wrap it with peppered or hickory smoked.
There are not many places that don’t serve it. Most restaurants except Red Robin do, and as far as fast food restaurants go everyone else (I think) but Arby’s uses peppered bacon, and Burger King which uses just everyday bacon you can buy at the store. I am just curious why the industry is so fascinated by it. Is it cheaper compared to other products?
I have been to many a place that serves a fantastic burger and have it ruined by the taste of applewood smoked bacon when I bite into it.
When will it end? Is there some lobbyist that is pushing Applewood Smoked Bacon on politicians and they are pressuring fast food and restaurants everywhere to put it on or in their food?
Okay, so there are some of my thoughts. Stay tuned as I begin to share even more. What are your thoughts on it? What is your favorite type of bacon?

I’m afraid I can’t help you with the reasons why people like this since I don’t eat little piggies at all. I did used to work in the food and nutrition industry so I of course would be happy to make it for people and not question why.. I do share your preference for less sweetness with the meat though. I’m a savory, not a sweet person and that sugar would ruin my meal too, so I totally feel you on this!

OK, I love bacon. I mean, I could be in a serious relationship with bacon. But NOT the sweet stuff, lol. If it says ‘maple’ on it anywhere…uh uh, no, count me out. I like regular, old-school bacon. Heck, I’ll even eat that stuff my great-grandpa liked (it was 90% chewy fat, lol, kind of tough, some people call it fat back bacon.) But nothing sweet.

I like bacon but applewood is not my favorite flavor.

I like bacon just as much as the next girl, but I have to agree with you. I’m not a fan of it being stacked on or wrapped around other meats. I like my bacon served perfectly crisp without being charred. It’s such a fine line. I can easily cook it the way I like it at home, so when I’m out ordering I generally don’t order food with bacon on or in it. It’s not their fault that I’m so picky when it comes to bacon. It’s easier just to avoid it
